Be Prepared For Accidents

I’m at the pediatrician’s office to weigh and measure my newborn and I’m about to put my naked baby on the scale, when she suddenly pees all over my shirt (Yes, this actually happened!). I don’t have another clean shirt with me but I’m glad that I at least have brought a hoodie along. I remove my wet shirt and put on the hoodie, trying to act like my left shoe isn’t dripping of pee.

A few days later, I’m at my mom’s house for Sunday night dinner. I’m enjoying the roast that she’d prepared all afternoon, when something starts to smell. And it’s not the apple cream pie from the oven. We’ve had a massive explosion in the diaper, yuk.

Unfortunately, the diaper bag only consists of my preschooler’s diapers. And they’re five sizes too big for my baby. So I have two options. Either let my baby sit in her car seat without a diaper and taking the risk of pee coming all over the seat. Or, let my baby borrow her older brother’s diaper.

What To Pack In The Diaper Bag?

Well, it’s called a diaper bag for a reason. But somehow I seem to believe that the diaper bag restocks it selfs.

You would think that I should have learned my lesson both once and twice. But guess what. I haven’t. Something is always missing. And when I restock the bag, I always seem to restock the things that aren’t missing.

I’m trying to establish the routine of checking the diaper bag before leaving the house. And I’ve created a checklist to help with that. From now on, I’ll make sure to always check this list before I leave the house and make sure that I don’t forget anything. (The checklist is available for you to download too. Just scroll down to the bottom of this page.)

Pretty Bags

Now that we’ve made sure that we’ll always remember to pack the bag in the future, let’s talk about appearance!

Diaper bags are like the new handbag. You can never have too many. Am I right ladies?

I’m currently working on wearing out my fourth diaper bag. I already have a black diaper bag from Young Club, a black bag with dots from Skip Hop, a pink one from Young Club, and one gray and white one with chevron pattern that’s also from Skip Hop (can you guess my favorite brand?).

I’ve never been one to spend a lot of money on one single thing. I prefer to spend a little less money on items so I won’t feel that bad if I want to switch to something new in a couple of months.
It might seem a bit wasteful. But since I’ve used the same stroller for four years, and since Alice inherit all of her clothes from her second cousins, I think it’s okay that I’ve bought four diaper bags over the years.
Even though I own a couple of different diaper bags, I have to reassure you that you won’t need to spend money on more than one diaper bag (if you don’t want to of course!) Most of them are of very good quality, and the selection is huge. So you can actually find similar looking diaper bags in different price ranges. Just take a look at these two striped diaper bags below.

And then there’s this one. The above diaper bag comes from Carter’s but to a smaller cost of $34.95.

Product details:

  • 16 x 13 x 7 inches
  • Zip closure; lined
  • 8 organizer pockets (including 2 outside pockets for bottles)
  • Zip Down Removable changing pad

Which would you choose?

It’s quite the differ money vise. And the differences aren’t that huge. I do think that the more expensive one from kate spade is more chick looking. But the one from Carter’s actually have a customer rating of 4,5 out of 5 stars, and that’s a fricking awesome review.

Which one would you choose? Would you go for the expensive, perhaps more exclusive one. Or would you settle for the less expensive one and maybe switch more often (like myself)? Just remember that in the case of diaper bags, it’s what you put inside that counts so don’t forget to download my diaper list checklist.
