Tally Me Bananas

I really enjoy crocheting amigurumi. Fruit and cookies are a lot of fun to make but I’m not fond of projects that take weeks to finish, though. Crochet blankets are beautiful, but they take forever to finish.  But amigurumi projects, you can usually finish quickly and they are so pretty.

This pattern is one of four available fruit patterns on this blog. Check them out here:

The pattern is crochet around in a spiral, without closing the laps. Insert a marker (such as a piece of yarn in a contrasting color) in the first stitch of the row. This makes it easier to see where the laps begin and end.

Glossary:

ch = Chain
sc = Single crochet
dec = Decrease

 

It’s time to start crocheting the banana!

Using brown yarn:

Row 1: 6 sc in Magic Ring. (6 sts) Click here if you need help with the Magic Ring.
Row 2: Sc in the back loop only. (6 sts)
Row 3-5: Sc 6
Row 6: *Sc 2, 2 sc in next sc*, rep 2 times (8 sts)
Fasten off and change yarn to yellow.

Row 7: Chain one, *Sc 1, 2 sc in next sc*, rep 2 times (12 sts)
Row 8: *Sc 3, 2 sc in next sc*, rep 2 times (15 sts)
Row 9: *Sc 4, 2 sc in next sc*, rep 2 times (18 sts)
Row 10: *Sc 5, 2 sc in next sc*, rep 2 times (21 sts)

Row 11-20: Sc 21

Row 21: Sc 9, chain one, turn, sc 9, chain one, turn (20 sts)
Row 22: Sc 21. Remember to crochet ”up hill” and ”down hill” as well.

Begin stuffing.
Row 23-25: Sc 21

Row 26: Sc 9, chain one, turn, sc 9, chain one, turn (20 sts)
Row 27: Sc 21. Remember to crochet ”up hill” and ”down hill” as well.

Row 28-36: Sc 21

Row 37: *Sc 5, dec 1*, rep 2 times (18sts)
Row 38: *Sc 4, dec 1*, rep 2 times (15sts)

Continue stuffing.

Row 39: *Sc 3, dec 1*, rep 2 times (12 sts)

Row 40: Sc 12

Row 41: *Sc 2, dec 1*, rep 2 times (9 sts)

 

Fasten off and change yarn color to brown.

Row 42: *Dec 1*, rep 2 times (6 sts)

Fasten off and weave in end.
